The beginning of the museum dates back to 1968, when, on the initiative of the Social Organizing Committee of the Bieszczady Fauna Museum, collection of natural exhibits began. The seat of present museum was constructed in 1986 and in 1991 the building was handed over to the Bieszczady National Park. The facility that carries out not only museum but also scientific and didactic activities was established.

We can see the following expositions in the Museum: the Bieszczady then and today, biology and systematics of the animal world, selected issues from palaeontology, geology of the Bieszczady Mountains against the background of the Carpathians, geomorphology, hydrology, climate and the Bieszczady soils, protection plan for the Bieszczady National Park, flora and plant communities and fauna of the Bieszczady. Additionally, temporary exhibitions are organized.

In the Museum's collection we can see, among other things, a big size brown bear, the shooting of which is attributed to Piotr Jaroszewicz – the former Prime Minister of Poland. In the exhibition "Selected issues from palaeontology" for special attention deserves the hairy rhino, which was found in 1929 in Staruń at Podkarpackie, the rhino was covered in the ground, preserved by oil and saline water.
