Miková

In Slovakia, Miková is known especially as the birthplace of Andy Warhol parents, whose were Ondrej Warhola and Júlia Závadská. They emigrated to USA between 1914 and 1921.

There is an intersection of tourist routes in the village. One can go on the blue tourist trail to Nižný Komárnik village (4 hours and 10 minutes on foot), which is located near the Dukla Pass. The red trail leads to Čertižné village in 2 hours and 40 minutes on foot.

A curiosity is a fact that here are closed oil wells. In 1930, oil was extracted from eight wells.
In total, seventeen wells with a depth of 50 to 250 meters were drilled in Mikova. In the most efficient Maciej well from 1941 to 1943, 12 961 tones of oil were extracted. During the Second World War II oil was exported by Germans.
